South Korean tech giant LG Electronics Inc. unveiled its Digital Cockpit gamma, the latest addition to its Mobility Labworks Series, on Monday.
The model showcases advanced technology concepts for future mobility to enhance the driver experience, and is the third in the series, following the company’s earlier alpha and beta models that were released in 2023.
A digital cockpit is an advanced driving space that integrates cutting-edge technologies. The Digital Cockpit gamma features three modular solutions: the Vision Display, Intelligent Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and Connectivity & Content, allowing customers to choose the modules they prefer.
The Vision Display uses a transparent organic light-emitting diode (OLED) instrument panel to provide driving information such as navigation and speed. The central information display (CID) on the vehicle dashboard incorporates a rollable plastic OLED.
Intelligent HMI is an advanced system that combines artificial intelligence (AI) with HMI, enabling interaction between the vehicle and the driver. If the system detects driver drowsiness, for example, it will suggest nearby cafes and offer to place an order for a coffee.
Payment is made conveniently through a vehicle-based pay system using fingerprint recognition. Connectivity & Content leverage 5G communication for fast data transfer, offering a rich entertainment experience.
Inside the vehicle, passengers can enjoy high-quality content and live broadcasts through the webOS content platform. They can also select content, adjust volume with hand gestures, and share videos with other seat displays using the mirroring function.
LG Electronics‘ VS Business Division, responsible for vehicle components, has been showcasing advanced mobility technology concepts as part of its Mobility Labworks Series on its official website since 2023.
